Did you know Connecticut has its own version of Nashville-style country music nights? Because I didn’t—until I walked into The Barn in Groton and found myself in the middle of something really special.

Last night, I attended Country on Deck, a local podcast-turned-event series that’s giving country artists the spotlight they deserve. Think: intimate venue, live acoustic sets, and original songs with stories. Not your average open mic—this was a curated experience. And yes, it’s happening monthly, right here in Connecticut.

The event is organized by Josh Mattei, who’s doing an amazing job creating a platform for New England-based artists to perform, connect, and grow. The atmosphere? Super chill, cozy, and full of love for music. The talent? Raw, powerful, and real. I went thinking I’d stay for a song or two and ended up staying the whole night.

The atmosphere at The Barn was warm and inviting—full of music lovers, local supporters, and people just happy to experience something different. Every artist brought their own unique flavor, and the crowd was here for it. Whether it was your first time hearing live country or you’re a regular at the Grand Ole Opry, this event felt like home.

Oh—and let’s not skip the food. I grabbed a Sausage & Veggies pizza from The Barn’s kitchen, and it came out quick, crispy, loaded, and delicious. I even had leftovers for breakfast, and honestly, no complaints. (Would 10/10 get it again.)

This wasn’t just a show—it was an experience. It’s the kind of thing you don’t know you need until you’re in it, and once you’ve been, you’ll want to bring everyone back with you next time.
